Senior Central Government officials would soon visit Bhubaneswar to investigate the complaints that some doctors of the ESI Hospital in the city are engaged in private practice.
Describing it as a matter of serious concern, Union labour and Employment Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Wednesday told the Rajya Sabha that senior officers would be deputed to investigate the complaints.
The Minister’s response came while replying to a question by MP (independent) from Odisha Pyarimohan Mohapatra.
While stating that the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Hospital in Bhubaneswar is run by the Odisha Government, the Minister said the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has undertaken a project for upgradation of this hospital from 50 beds to 100. The project would be completed by March 2015.
Tomar admitted that there is shortage of doctors and other facilities in ESI and other Government hospitals. The Government is making efforts to ensure availability of doctors of all faculties in the hospitals, he said.
