Centre, State fail to control onion price: BJP

Published on:

BJP State chief spokesperson Suresh Pujari on Wednesday alleged that both the Union and State Governments have failed to contain the skyrocketing prices of onion and other vegetables making these essential commodities inaccessible for common people.

At present, the price of onion hovers around `60 to `70 per kg. To raise election fund from black-marketeers for the ensuing elections, the Central and State Governments have turned a blind eye to the plight of common man, alleged Pujari.

“The tall claims of the State Government of sufficient availability of onion in the market have fallen flat with the onion price still rising,” said Suresh Pujari.

He added “It has exposed the secret nexus between the Government and the black-marketers. Selling of onion through different counters and at PDS points is just eyewash to mislead people.” Not a single person has been arrested on the charge of black-marketing so far.

While the State Government attempts to take credit for providing rice at `1 per kg to poor, would it come forward to own up responsibility for these skyrocketing prices of onion and other vegetables, asked Pujari.
