Many students want to continue with system

In a major setback to UPSC examination aspirants, the Union Government on Tuesday directed to put on hold the scheduled August 24 UPSC Preliminary Examinations following a protest staged by some students in Delhi demanding scraping of the CSAT paper from the examination.

However, several aspirants have opposed the decision and wanted that the examinations held on the scheduled date without bringing any changes in the examination.

Notably, the CSAT paper, which comprises logical reasoning, communication skill and decision- making, basic numeracy, general mental ability, basic reading and English skills, tests administrative aptitude of a candidate opting for an officer’ post.

While all the questions papers, excepting nine questions from the English skills section, are written in both English and Hindi languages, a few Hindi medium students have alleged that English medium students have the advantage of the CSAT paper, said a aspirant of the exam.

The students, which represent only one per cent of all the UPSC applicants, are using the language as political tool to have the advantage of removing the CSAT paper, said another UPSC aspirant, adding that if the CSAT paper would be removed, it will affect the quality of the future Government officers.
