The Union Government has nominated Puri sea beach and country’s seven other seashores to International Jury of Denmark for accordance of ‘Blue Flag’ to the shorelines under the Beach Environment & Aesthetic Management System (BEAMS).

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar for nominating the Puri beach for the Blue Flag tag. He said the Society of Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM) and the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change have identified the seashores as pilot Blue Flag beaches. The SICOM has been creating facilities like seating places, bathing zones, modern toilets and keeping them pollution-free and beautiful.

“Development of world-class facilities and compliance of Blue flag criteria at the Golden beach in Puri and other beaches in the country will further develop new tourism hotspots and will boost sustainable beach tourism in Odisha and other coastal States,” tweeted Pradhan.
