'Centre can't intervene in M'nadi issue'

Even as the BJD Government continues its protest against Chhattisgarh over the Mahanadi water sharing issue, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said the Centre cannot intervene in the matter as it is sub-judice.

Addressing a Press conference after attending a Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas Sammelan in Bhubaneswar to highlight the pro-people initiatives during the first three years of the Narendra Modi Government, Naidu defended the Centre’s stand on the Mahanadi issue.

When asked about a possibility of drought-like situation in Odisha if the Chhattisgarh Government does not release Mahanadi water into the lower catchment area, Naidu said, “The Odisha Government may inform the court about it.”

The matter needs to be resolved. The Odisha Government should think about the issue and find out a solution, he said.

“On the completion of three years of the Modi Government, 350 members of BJP including Union Ministers, MPs, Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers are visiting 900 places in the country for 15 days to submit report cards of the pro-people initiatives taken by the Government in the past three years. By June 15, we will reach the 900 places,” Naidu said.

He clarified that the ‘Modi fest’ is not named after Narendra Modi but is ‘Making of Development India festival’.

Naidu also monitored cleanliness and other operations in the AIR and PIB offices in Bhubaneswar along with his colleague Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
