The Koraput-based Central University of Odisha will launch a new master’s programme in Sanskrit from the next academic session.

The decision was taken in the meeting of 20th Executive Council of the university under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Miyan on Sunday. “Sanskrit remains the supreme language, but even while other languages were taking shape, Sanskrit continued to be the vehicle of creative and all other scholarly work. Sanskrit, which is a part of our cultural heritage, needed to be given importance in any educational institution.

So the university is launching the programme in next academic session, said Prof Miyan. He informed that senior scholars would be invited to develop the curriculum and structure of the programme. Previously the Academic Council has already approved for the starting of the Hindi department in the university. In this connection one Hindi Officer was appointed in the university.  Initially the programme will begin with two- year MA and subsequently introduce research programmes in Sanskrit.
