The Central University of Orissa celebrated the Constitution Day at its permanent campus at Sunabeda on Saturday with Vice-Chancellor Prof Sachidananda Mohanty inaugurating the programme and delivering a lecture on ‘The importance of Fundamental Duties enshrined in the Constitution of India’.

Prof Mohanty spoke about the concept of duties and its importance in Indian culture as well as in the Indian Constitution and its importance for a democratic country like India. “Duty should be bound with ethical sense. We have to do our duty for ourselves. If you have taken a responsibility then you must have to be dutiful,” he said.

He added, “We are seeing so much hatred in our country these days. We have become slaves of the gadgets. We must have to be East-centric and should not look to West for everything.”

The Vice-Chancellor led the university in taking pledge to build a peaceful society and a developed nation.

Assistant Professor of Sociology Dr Kapila Khemundu delivered the introductory address. Journalism and Mass Communication student Rojalin Mishra proposed a vote of thanks.
