A five-member Central team led by Union Additional Commissioner of Agriculture RP Malik, visited the drought-affected Bargarh and Subarnapur districts on Wednesday to assess the situation.
In all, the team would visit eight districts in the State, Dhenkanal, Khordha, Balangir, Boudh, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Kandhamal and Keonjhar, which have received less than normal rainfall this year.
Meanwhile, team leader RP Malik said they would meet Chief Secretary GC Pati on Thursday to discuss the drought situation.
Though the Central team has already arrived in the State, the Odisha Government is yet to come up with a comprehensive report on the status of the drought.
There have been rise in reports of farmer suicides in the State over crop failure due to insufficient rain.
Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh had directed to constitute the team after his ministerial colleague Dharmendra Pradhan, who hails from Odisha requested him to send a Central team to assess the drought situation in the State and suggest remedial measures to combat agrarian and rural distress.
