A committee of the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs under the head ‘Documentation of good practices’ has returned to Delhi after recording the methodology applied in various tribal schools of Odisha.

The three-member committee headed by former Secretary of Tribal Affairs, Hrusikesh Panda visited around seven selected tribal ashrams in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.

The objective of the committee is to study the methodology used by the schools in various states and submit a report to centre for its appraisal and further actions.

Panda said, “I find some of the tribal schools in Odisha are excellent and 100 per cent students have passed with first class result in class 10, which is even difficult for general schools’ students.”

In the ‘Surgi Phula’ programme, the tribal children showcased their talents, he added.

“Some schools are not following the guidelines that how to impart education to the students in basic levels. In the initial stage, the students should be taught in their Santhali language and then they can study in Odia language,” he said.

The committee would visit Tamil Nadu, Karnatak, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Meghalaya to study good practices, said Suprava Dash, a member of the team.
