'Central, State boards fail to provide student-centric edu'

Education boards run by the Centre and the State Government have failed to adopt an equal student-centric education system and have sold out the English medium education to private traders.

The Odisha Students’ Parents Association made this allegation at a convention titled “CBSE curriculum, examination and evaluation; private school management and fee structure” held here on Sunday.

“There is no link between CBSE syllabus and examination management and evaluation of answer papers. Experienced teachers and workers are not engaged in evaluation and result publication. As untrained ones are doing this work, meritorious students are suffering a lot, said renowned educationist Krushna Chandra Sarangi.

This year the parents were very unhappy over the irregularities in the publication of Class-XII examination results as their wards were deprived of getting due marks, added Sarangi.

World Teachers’ Federation general secretary Prof Amiya Bhusan Mohanty said stringent laws should be in enacted in the State Assembly to regulate the activities of the English medium schools.

The association decided that the forum would carry out a signature campaign to collect signatures of one lakh parents from across the State. A protest meeting would be held in front of the State Assembly and a memorandum would also be submitted to the Chief Minister and the Union Minister of Human Resources Development.Among others, Central Institute of Indian language former Director Dr Devi Prasanna Pattnayak, Utkal University former Vice-Chancellor Dr Binayak Rath, educationist Dr Birendra Nayak, parent leader Dr RN Bisoi and Mahendra Parida also spoke.

Parent leaders like Yuddhisthir Behera from Brahmapur, Nihar Ranjan Samal from Rourkela, Kendrapada’s Dr Sambit Mishra, Sanjukta Panigrahi, Bhikari Mohanty, Baikuntha Das, Harsh Praharaj, Subash Nayak and Bikash Nath participated and presented their views.
