National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) Additional Director Gagan Singh Sonal on Thursday said the dengue situation in Odisha is improving and there is no need to panic.
He also expressed satisfaction on the measures already initiated by the State Government to combat the prevalent dengue menace.
On the prevailing dengue situation in Cuttack, Sonal said it may take some time to overcome the menace, but under control now.
He stressed on intensification of sanitation drive by the administration and also appealed that it needs active community participation and public awareness to avert breeding grounds for the mosquitoes.
He also met concerned State Government officials and discussed the issue in a detailed manner.
He cited the ground realities of Barbil in Keonjhar district where the team found people storing water for days together as well as abandoned trucks and lorries and heaps of unused vehicle tyres and swamps having turned to be the cosy breeding grounds of the mosquito carrying the dengue virus.
Sonal was deputed by the Centre to take stock of the alarming dengue situation in Odisha.
