Amidst gloomy pictures across India pertaining to Covid-19 causalities, here is a centenarian of Baleswar district who could beat the dreaded virus after being treated at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and returned to his family after recovery.

Dayanidhi Panda, stated to be 107-year-old, a resident of Birua near Segargh under Nilgiri block, has sent a message to others that the virus can be beaten with self-confidence.

According to reports, when Panda felt difficulties in breathing, his son Mukteswar brought him to the DHH, where he was advised to get tested for corona and he was found positive. During his admission, his oxygen level was below the permissible limit. The family members had left hope for his survival. After receiving medication for four days from Wednesday to Saturday, he recovered and the hospital authorities informed his family to take him home as he recovered from Covid and was free from danger.

He was discharged from the hospital on Sunday. However,  the family members were told that he might feel weakness for next few days due to the virus’ impact.  Meanwhile, there have been reports from various blocks and vaccination centres that people desiring to take vaccines are facing a tough time to avail it as  they have no information whether vaccine is available or not.

One can see long queues before each vaccination centre before its opening. The rush is seen for the second dose as well as first timers above 45 years. Some also allege that although their time gap between the first and second jab lapsed yet they couldn’t avail it due to its non-availability.

And they had hardly any prior information about the stock position. As a result, everyday they come and return. The date of vaccination should be streamlined and people should be informed telephonically about their turn, they demanded.
