The Central Empowered Committee (CEC), appointed by the Supreme Court, would submit its report on illegal mining in Odisha to the apex court within four weeks, said sources.
As per earlier reports, the CEC was supposed to give its report to the court on Monday. Sources said the CEC has asked the Supreme Court for three more weeks for submission of the report.
Notably, in July, a team of CEC members found major discrepancies in data showed by mines leaseholders and the State Government regarding lease boundary and mineral extraction during its field visit.
Following this, the CEC asked the State Government to submit rectified data about mineral extraction and all other details after talks with the miners. During the last week of August, the Government sent the final data to help the panel prepare a complete report on the status of illegal mining.
