Even as the news of a schoolgirl delivering a baby in Kandhamal district triggered a row in the State, SC and ST Development Minister Ramesh Majhi on Monday said the Government would instal closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in as many as 1,000 residential schools.

“Schoolchildren are the Government’s topmost priority. So, arrangements are being made to install CCTV cameras in as many as 1, 000 hostels with priority to girls’ hostel to improve security and keep watch on the proceedings,” the Minister said.

The tender for the CCTV cameras have been floated and the installation would be done on a war-footing, he added.

“We have treating the sensitive issue with utmost importance.  Six persons have been dismissed and four have been suspended in connection with the incident,” said the Minister.

“Two Matrons, ANM, two Cook-cum-Attendants and one Warden had been dismissed while three women Assistant Superintendents were suspended. The school’s Headmistress Radharani Dalai has also been suspended today,” Majhi said.
