Two days after the assault of a devotee by servitors of the Shree Jagannath Temple here, the temple administration has decided to instal CCTV cameras at the shrine’s Bhitara Katha, the final entry point for devotees.

Informing this, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Niti Administrator Pradeep Das said that the cameras would be installed in order to monitor movement and activities of servitors and devotees inside the temple. The cameras would be on during he darshan of the deities and off during rituals, he added. Meanwhile, the SJTA has suspended two sevayats, Somnath Mekap and Madan Khuntia, for an indefinite period in connection with the attack on the devotee on Sunday. A probe has been ordered into the incident.

Notably, the devotee from Maharashtra was allegedly assaulted by some servitors in the temple and his gold pendent was snatched as he refused to pay a large amount of Dakshina demanded by the servitors.
