The Forest Department and the district administration have installed CCTV cameras in the deer park- a centre of attraction for the thousands of animal lovers situated inside the Sambalpur town.

The aim is to keep a watch on the behaviours of the animals of the park and also that of the activities of the staff appointed to take care of them, besides the movement of the visitors coming for entertainment, a park official said.

At the first phase, 10 cameras have been installed in different parts of the park and in all important places. ‘It is marked that some of the visitors are giving food to the animals in the zoo, while others are irritating them. With CC TV cameras in place, we can now have control over such activities,’ the official said.

Notably, the park was established in the year 1980 in area of 14 hectares of land in Brookshill. Now 250 different species of birds and animals are found here for the attraction of the visitors. A good number of local people including tourists also throng here for enjoying its scenic beauty.

Hence, CCTV cameras will be beneficial for the safety and security of the animals, the park officials admitted. The local public also welcomed the arrangement.
