CCB scam engineered to taint Birendra’s image

The Cuttack Central Cooperative Bank (CCB) Limited, a 64-year-old premier cooperative organisation spread over four districts, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Jajpur, is catering to the agricultural need of farmers through 468 Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACSs) in addition to artisans as well as small traders under 700 PACS.

The organization had gone insipid and was languishing in inertia. A new lease of life dawned upon the organisation as soon as an elected management under the stewardship of Birendra Pratap Swain took over since May 1, 2015. Thereafter, the orgnisation did not look back. It stole the limelight by bagging State level awards and accolades for performance.

For example the net profit which was Rs 5.81 crore in 2014-15 rose to a whopping Rs 17.14 crore setting an example and an all time high record of excellence.

This is worth mentioning here that the bank for the first time in its history paid dividends not only to the employees but also to the stakeholders. This is also pertinent to mention here that the Co-operative Bank had donated an inviable amount of Rs 200 crore to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for the cause of Covid containment. The Bank had also received appreciation from NABARD for highest financing to joint liability groups during 2018-19.

Meanwhile, the charges of corruption against Birendra Pratap Swain is motivated in order to malign his brother who is Athagarh MLA and Minister Food Supply and Consumer Affairs and Cooperation Ranendra Pratap Swain. When Birendra himself is not found guilty at all in any way or in any manner by an eight-member team of inquiring officers deputed by the State Government for the purpose, the charge against him is nothing but a wild goose chase engineered by a vested interest group with some ulterior motive. In this connection this is to be mentioned here that, Birendra was elected as President of CCB during 2015 through a proper democratic process when his brother Ranendra was not inducted as a Minister.

Such an endeavour by making false and fabricated allegations against Birendra is a sinister design by some Machiavellian groups to caste aspersion and hurl calumny upon the spotless white image of a leading leader of cooperative movement in the State, who had brought laurels to this sector during his brief stint.
