As expected, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday withdrew a petition it had filed last week in the Orissa High Court seeking a review of an interim order of the court on June 7 directing the board to reevaluate the answer papers of some Class XII students. The results were published in May.
The CBSE backtracked from its position following intervention by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, who on Thursday along with Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi had assured the parents of the aggrieved students to ask the CBSE to withdraw the review petition.
Notably, the High Court considering a batch of petitions filed by the students alleging discrepancies in marks awarded to them had ordered reevaluation of papers of at least 181 students.
While the CBSE has already reevaluated at least 51 papers of 18 students by engaging experts and published their revised results, at least 159 more students have in the meantime obtained court orders to apply for fresh evaluation. Sources said more students are likely to approach the court shortly seeking reevaluation of their answer papers.
