Chit fund firm’s deals with Govt under scanner

The CBI is gearing up for massive raids on Seashore Company’s offices and houses of its directors and senior officials in connection with the chit fund scam.

As the company had several deals with so many firms, including Government sectors, the ruling party might also come under the probe agency’s scanner and subsequent interrogations.

Sources said the Seashore had several wings such as non-banking financial services, Seashore Dairy Products, tools and machineries, STV Samachar and Soubhagya Drinks.

Apart from that, the company’s bank balance to the tune of `2 crore and the `3-crore security deposits with the Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) and the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) have given a sign of Government’s link with the fraudulent firm.

Former Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik’s ironical statement against the State Government regarding the company’s deal with the Government firms also caused much exasperation for the ruling party. The CBI might grill several department heads and their Ministers about the deals.

last year the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the State Crime Branch had attached immovable properties of the Group like a few buildings and apartments, 203 acres of land located in 17 places across the State in the name of the company’s CMD and its directors.

The EOW had also seized gold bars weighing 1.4 kg and 1,000 silver coins weighing 100 kg from Seashore CMD’s bank locker in HDFC bank in the city.

Recently, the Seashore CMD told reporters at Jeypore that he would unmask some politicians who intentionally helped to conduct raid on his company to cover up their misdeeds.
