The Special CBI Court here on Thursday allowed the CBI to take builders Vineet lalani and Dilip Mohanty on an eight-day remand in connection with the chit fund scam. Mohanty is also a former secretary of State Congress.
The duo was produced before the court in the afternoon after a medical check-up was conducted on them at the Capital Hospital here. Sitanshu Mohan Dwivedy, counsel for the duo, said he has moved a bail petition on behalf of his clients, but it was not taken up for hearing on Thursday.
Notably, lalani and Mohanty were arrested by the CBI on Wednesday for their links with the AT Group. They have been charged with criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery and fund embezzlement. lalani and Mohanty were directors in real estate firm Orisun Properties ltd and were involved with the AT Group in land deals and construction of apartments and duplex houses, CBI sources said.
The sources said lalani had taken huge amounts of money from AT Group CMD Pradeep Kumar Sethy through the accounts of Orisun Group employees and had tried to dupe the AT Group while Mohanty had got a plot from the AT Group as gift.
