The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is no holy cow. It functions under the Union Home Minister and the Prime Minister and succumbs to pressure. While it nets small fries, the big fish manage to elude it dragnet,” alleged trade union leader Mayadhar Nayak at a Press meet here on Monday.
Nayak said, “In 1993, we launched an agitation in Sukinda against Atwal Company in Tisco chromite mines area. A group of goons abducted and murdered our union leader Shyamapada Rout. We informed the local police, the Jajpur SP and even the Director General of Police. But nothing happened.”
“Then we knocked at the doors of the Supreme Court. The apex court ordered the CBI to inquire into the incident. After one year, the investigating agency tracked the assailants and made them one of them approvers and brought one of them to the city office here. But at night the approver died in the lockup. His death is still a mystery. later, the CBI arrested a kingpin of the murder case and grilled some other officers. But after 23 years the case is yet to be solved,” he added.
Now, the CBI is arresting and putting anybody behind bars, whose name crops up in the chit fund scam. That is good but it has not taken any action against BJP Union Minister Babul Supriyo and Karnataka BJP leader Janardan Reddy. In this scenario, how can people trust the premier investigative agency of the countryIJ So, an autonomous body should be formed keep an eye on the CBI, demanded Nayak.
