'CBI may call Damodar Rout as approver'

Union Tribal Affairs Minister and BJP leader Jual Oram on Saturday said the CBI, which is probing the chit fund scam in Odisha, might call senior BJD leader and Excise Minister Dr Damodar Rout to be Raj Sakshi (approver) to the alleged links of Rajya Sabha Member and former BJD leader Pyari Mohan Mohapatra with the Seashore Group, the largest chit fund company in the State.

“I am sure the CBI has taken note of Dama Babu’s remarks on Mohapatra’s role in the chit fund scam. The investigating agency may call the Minister to be the Raj Sakshi to reveal the truth about the scam,” Oram told mediapersons here.

Stating that the CBI is probing the role of the politicians in the multi-thousand crore scam, he hoped that the Central investigating agency would nab the real culprits of the scam.

On Thursday, Dr Rout had told a local news channel that the chit fund business of the Seashore company had flourished in Odisha with the patronage of the State Government. He had also accused Pyarimohan Mohapatra of facilitating the Ponzi firm’s growth by exerting his influence over the State babudom.

In his reaction to Dr Rout’s statement, Mohapatra said he (Dr Rout) should provide proofs against his allegations and he was ready to depose before the CBI.
