The Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday questioned Seashore Group CMD Prashant Kumar Dash, his brother Prabhat Dash, and Subhankar Nayak, an alleged conduit between the chit fund firm and political leaders at the Jharpada Special Jail here in connection with the company’s multi-crore scam.
The grilling assumed significance as the CBI has already failed to complete the chit fund scam probe in May this year as directed by the Supreme Court. Sources said that before completing the probe, Central Investigating officials have tried to gather more information about the scam and involvement of influential people.
The team, comprising of CBI Bhubaneswar Superintendent of Police (SP) and Investigating Officer (IO), grilled the trio.
The Special CBI Court here has granted the agency three days to complete questioning of the trio in the jail.
last year, the CBI had filed a 276-page chargesheet in which it had named Prashant, Prabhat and Subhankar and accused the Seashore Group of swindling `578.20 crore.
While Prashant was arrested by the Crime Branch from Mumbai on June 20, 2013 before the case was handed over to the CBI after the Supreme Court order, his brother Prabhat who was also accused of embezzling company funds to the tune of `3 crore was nabbed on January 24 last year.
The CBI had arrested Subhankar Nayak for his alleged links with the company on November 18, 2014.
The Enforcement Directorate is also investigating the money trailing aspects of the company.
