Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Asirbad Beheraon Wednesday confirmed that the Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) is seized of a matter pertaining to the age of some budding cricketers of the State, who have allegedly faked their ages.
“A fortnight ago, we received a communiqué from the central investigating agency seeking documentary evidence in support of some 40 cricketers, who are representing the State in various national tournaments”, Behera told reporters here adding that the CBI requisition has been duly complied with immediately. The current CBI investigation has begun apparently due to several petitions filed before the BCCI alleging that many State associations, including Odisha, have been indulging in faking the actual age of their players, who are taking part in national and State tournaments.
Behera however, played safe saying that the Association has no scope in verifying the actual age of the players. “We only rely upon the documents provided by these players in support of their age to determine in which category they will play”, Behera said.
