The State Crime Branch police would take arrested top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda on remand for 10 days in three different cases, said Crime Branch ADG BK Sharma on Wednesday.
Sharma said the Crime Branch on Wednesday requested the Phulbani SDJM Court to allow them for taking Panda on a five-day remand for interrogation in the VHP leader laxmanananda Saraswati murder case.
Similarly, Sharma said, the CB also urged the Nayagarh SDJM Court to allow a five-day remand of Panda in the case of the Nayagarh armoury loot and killing of policemen.
The ADG said the CB would first interrogate Panda regarding the Nayagarh case. “We will also interrogate Panda about the motive of killing the VHP leader and his disciples at Chakapada in Kandhamal district.”
Sharma said the Maoist leader would be quizzed at the Crime Branch headquarters at Cuttack instead of Phulbani, Nayagarh or Brahmapur. Though the exact remand dates are not known, the Crime Branch expects to take Panda on remand after the completion of the Brahmapur police’s remand period, said Crime Branch sources.
