CB to probe RTI activist murder: Govt

Published on:

The State Government on Monday told the State Assembly that three persons have so far been arrested in connection with the killing of RTI activist Krupasindhu Sahu of Nachhigaon under Cuttack district’s Niali block on January 26 and the case is now being probed by the Crime Branch. In a statement, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh also said efforts are on to nab another person who is at large.

Arukh made this statement as Speaker Niranjan Pujari had on Saturday directed the State Government to make a statement on Sahu’s killing on the demand of the Opposition Congress. Pratap Kumar Jena, Sushila Pani and Manju Sahu were arrested in this connection on January 31 while another accused Kartik Pani was on the run.

The three told the police that Kartik had killed Krupasinghu and buried him in a river bed. On their information, Krupasindhu’s body was dug out, Arukh said. The Minister also informed that Kartik had earlier been convicted and imprisoned in another murder case and was allegedly involved in five other serious cases.
