CB to probe mineral trader's ponzi links

The State Crime Branch (CB) on Tuesday took managing director of JBS Mineral and Overseas firm Prabhanjan Mohanty on a two-day remand. Crime Branch officials said that during the remand period, they would try to ascertain if Mohanty had links with chit fund companies.

CB Special DG Bijay Kumar Sharma said Mohanty would be interrogated both for forgery of land documents and chit fund links.

This is because, sources said, Mohanty was found to be working in a Bhubaneswar-based chit fund company, Sanchaya Infra Projects limited. A fraud case has been registered against the company and three persons involved in it are on the run since 2013 while one has been arrested.

Notably, the CB’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Monday arrested Mohanty in connection with a Rs 4.5-crore bank fraud case. He was arrested following directions from the Orissa High Court.

Reports said Mohanty had allegedly taken a loan from a bank by producing forged land documents as collateral.
