Crime Branch police sleuths on Sunday morning detained four persons, including Punjilal Meher, an English lecturer at the Jyoti Bikas College, Bhainsa, in connection with the Patnagarh parcel gift bomb case that killed two persons, Soumya Sekhar Sahu and his grandmother Jemamani and left Soumya’s wife Reemarani severely injured on February 23, 2018.

The team comprising Crime Branch IG Arun Bothra, ASP Anil Kumar Das and others interrogated the detainees at different places, according to information.

lecturer Punjilal Meher had worked as Principal-in-Charge of the Jyoti Bikas College for many years. But he had to quit the post when deceased Soumya Sekhar’s mother Sanjukta Sahu joined college as Principal. During this time, the incident of parcel gift explosion occurred.

The police have seized a laptop, diary and some documents from Punjilal’s residence.

It may be noted that the CB team had earlier met the parents of Soumya’s father Rabindra Kumar Sahu and mother Sanjukta Sahu and enquired about the incident.

The detention and interrogation of four persons were held two days after DGP Dr RP Sharma stated that the police would get a breakthrough in the sensational Patnagarh parcel gift blast case soon.
