The State Progressive Women’s Forum has demanded a Crime Branch inquiry into the alleged gangrape of a minor girl in Dihanga village under Ranpur police station in Nayagarh district in January 24 this year.
“The Ranpur police under the pressure of a ruling party MlA of Nayagarh district preferred to remain silent into the sensitive issue. Though around six months have elapsed after the brutal crime, in which the miscreants inserted sticks in the victim’s private part after failing to rape her, the police are yet to arrest the culprits,” said forum chairperson Mamata Samantray here at a Press conference on Monday.
Stating that a six-member fact-finding team of the forum had visited the village recently to gather detailed information, Samantray said, “Despite the repeated appeals of the victim’s parents, the police administration at the behest of a ruling party MlA belonging to Nayagarh district is not taking action against the culprits.”
The women’s body too urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to take up such sensitive issues seriously rather being a mute spectator.
