In January 2021, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) had engaged some SHGs of transgenders to collect parking fees from vehicle owners at major parking lots in the capital city.
However, All Odisha Kinnar and Third Gender Association members on Tuesday held a demonstration before the BMC here demanding a Crime Branch probe into the alleged huge scam in allotment of parking lots.
The association alleged that the SHGs which were given responsibility to collect parking in the Ram Mandir, Unit-2 , AG Square, Raj Mahal Square and other places are not engaging transgenders to collect parking. Instead they are engaging some dishonest youths, who are collecting more money than the fixed charges, misbehaving with people and even journalists.
This is creating a bad image for the transgenders in the people’s mind.
The association members led by president Sweety Sahu and Menaka Parida demnaded the arrest of all the culprits and a Crime Branch (CB) probe into all the irregularities. If no action is taken within seven days, they would gherao the Naveen Niwas, warned the association.
