Busting a cattle trafficking racket, the Karanjia police of Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday rescued 10 cows from a pickup van and seized the vehicle at Chanchabani in the district. However, the vehicle’s driver and helper managed to flee the spot. Sources said a group of locals had noticed the cattle-laden pickup van and immediately intercepted it at Chanchabani.
They later informed the matter to police, who reached the spot and rescued all the 10 cows and later handed them over to the Kanranjia cattle shed. The cops further initiated an inquiry in this connection. Meanwhile, villagers expressed strong discontentment alleging that cattle-trafficking has become rampant in the Karanjia area, but the local administration has turned a deaf ear to their repeated complaints about this.
