Even after so many days after demonetisation have passed yet cashless economy is a distant dream in rural pockets of Subarnapur district.
Rural areas of Tarbha, Birmaharajpur, Binka block and Dunguripali blocks of the district are still to be familiar with the digital transactions. Besides, internet service is not available round the clock in these areas.
Senior journalist Gorekhnath Sahu said people have not been acquainted with cashless system. Because of lack of knowledge on online and internet mobile techniques etc, digital payment is yet to be success. It may be about 2 per cent, as of now, he stated.
Social activist Tapas Beura admitted that rural masses are slow to adopt digital transactions. It will take some time due to connectivity problems in rural area.
He also said the customer service points of SBI and other bank correspondents with more than 110 POS and AEPS machines at remote pockets are pushing for cashless transactions.
However, Bank Of Baroda Branch Manager Udaya Kumar Mahapatra said payments through cash at the town have almost halved with bulk payment being made through cheques or internet banking.
He added the town’s mobile banking transactions have seen three-fold rise and Aadhar enabled. Mahapatra said at present awareness programme on digital banking services is underway at the block level.
