The Ganjam district administration has launched an initiative under which any person who provides information about a child marriage would receive a cash reward of Rs 5,000. This was decided at a meeting of administrative officials as parts of their efforts to curb the menace.

The money would be provided from the funds of the district’s Child Protection Unit, said an official.

The identity of the informer would remain a secret, the official said. Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said the administration, along with NGOs and self-help groups, has thwarted as many as 38 child marriages in 2019.
