Cash crunch in ATMs irk customers in city

Published on:

Bank customers in the city are running from pillar to post as various Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are not delivering cash.

Many persons are returning disappointed as numerous ATM counters lack cash. Besides, several ATM counters' shutters are half-closed according to reports.

Reports also said that such a situation is also prevalent in various other parts of the State since a week.

Only `100 notes are delivered and `500 and `1,000 notes are missing from the machines.

In Bhubaneswar, the SBI has 200 ATMs, and over `4 crore is dispensed out of these machines every day.

Bank officials said the cash flow from the RBI to put in ATMs has been reduced. SBI official added that this step has been taken to reduce circulation of notes in the State. And instead of `500 and `1,000, only `100 notes are dispensed and the ATMs are getting emptied faster.  This would go on for some more days.
