Carpenters stop Rath work

Published on:

With 19 days remaining for the grand Rath Yatra of lord Jagannath and His siblings in Puri, the temple carpenters engaged in construction of the chariots of the deities stopped their work on Tuesday demanding a hike in their remuneration.

The Viswakarma, Maharana and Bhoi servitors boycotted the Rath construction work demanding a 150-per cent increase in their daily remuneration.

However, the carpenters resumed their work after intervention of the temple’s Niti administrator, reports said.

The temple administrator would discuss about their demands later, the reports added.
