Carols, prayer meetings mark Good Friday

Published on:

Members of the Christian community across the State, including communally sensitive Kandhamal district which had witnessed large-scale riots in 2008, mourned crucifixion of Jesus Christ by observing Good Friday.

Prayers, carol community songs and fasting prayers were held and 7th Statements of dying Christ read as parts of the Good Friday observation. Some churches have held the mid night prayer last night.

Security arrangements were made at different places keeping in view the sensitivity of the areas in Kandhamal and some other parts of the State, official sources said.

In view of the Good Friday and Easter Sunday on coming Sunday, churches have been decorated and weeklong programmes chalked out to mark the occasion.
