Car rushes inside Odisha Secretariat and exits at ease

After causing a series of accidents, a rash car on Saturday afternoon easily rushed inside the State Secretariat here through the main gate and even managed to exit through the back gate at ease exposing the weak security arrangements at the seat of power, which is guarded by a three-tier security system of armed police personnel.

Sources said the driver of an Eon Hyundai model car bearing number OD 02 G 0477, after hitting about eight to ten persons between the Master Canteen-Secretariat stretch of the road barged into the Secretariat. Security personnel deployed at both the gates could not stop the speeding vehicle.

“We chased the car, but to our utter chagrin we noticed it entering the Secretariat well at ease and disappeared in the premises,” said an accident victim.

A woman was stated to be seriously injured in the car accident and rushed to hospital.

“The car hit me near the Congress Bhawan and fled. A few minutes later, it again hit me and fled towards PMG Square. When we chased the car, it entered the Secretariat easily without any hesitation and despite security barriers,” said another accident victim.

Unable to bear the negligence on the part of the security personnel for not stopping the vehicle at the Secretariat gate, the irate people who chased the car, staged a road blockade in front of the Secretariat demanding immediate arrest of the driver. The driver was said to be in an inebriated state.

As the people resorted to road blockade, police swung into action and managed to nab the driver along with the vehicle. He was detained for interrogation at the Capital police station.
