Former Sundargarh MLA Jogesh Singh, along with three other persons, suffered grievous injuries when the car by which they were travelling rammed into a tree and later caught fire near Naupala under the Banarpal police limits in Angul district in the wee hours of Saturday.
The injured were admitted to hospital for treatment.
Reports said the ex-MLA was going from Sundargarh to Bhubaneswar along with two others, Pratap Rout and Pradeep Sahu. At around 3 am, the car crashed into the roadside tree when driver Tankadhar Bag attempted to evade a collision with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction. A fire later broke out in the car.
Locals rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons before the car was completely gutted. They later admitted the four into the Angul District Headquarters Hospital, from where they were shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
