Temperature soared up alarmingly in the coastal belt of the State on Thursday with the capital city recording 45.3 degrees Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a severe heat wave warning in the coastal districts.
Subarnapur and Talcher recorded the highest of 45.4 degrees Celsius on the day.
People all over the State continued to reel under the scorching sunner heat with temperature of 18 places remaining above 40 degrees Celsius. Titilagarh continued to boil at 42.5.
The other places which had temperature above 40 degrees C were Baleswar (41.2), Chandbali (44.2), Cuttack (43), Angul (43.7), Jharsuguda (40.4), Keonjhar (40.4), Sambalpur (40.7), Sundargarh (42), Hirakud (41), Bhawanipatna (43.2), Balangir (43), Phulbani (41), Malkanagiri (43.6) and Dhenkanal (43.2).
Temperature in interior Odisha would come down due to thunderstorm and light rainfall in some parts of the region in next two days, local IMD Director SC Sahu said.
He said the wind flow which was from the south-west direction in the morning suddenly changed its course to the north-west direction by 10.30 am resulting in the sudden rise in the temperature.
If the wind flow continues to be from the west and north-west direction, there would be a further rise in temperature in State capital and other coastal belts, Sahu said.
The Met Department also warned that the temperature would increase in May 2 and 3 in the coastal parts of the State.
After May 5, the temperature is likely to fall, Sahu predicted.
