The Utkal Bikash Juba Parishad has urged RDC Arabinda Padhee to order cancellation of the scheduled cricket match on Friday at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
Reminding Padhee’s earlier order to District Collectors of cyclone-affected districts for not permitting jatras (opera), Parishad president Debiprasad Prusti strongly criticised the international cricket match terming it as a jatra of a different kind.
“When RDC Padhee is serious about not allowing the State-level jatra, he should show courage to cancel the cricket match at the Barabati Stadium,” said Prusti, adding that it is a matter of shame to see that a State, devastated by cyclone and resultant floods is hoisting a cricket match with foreign players.
“When a large section of people are struggling for a drop of drinking water and a bowl of rice, a few are preparing for a vulgar display of wealth. This kind of blunder on the part of the administration will create resentments among the affected people,” Prusti said.
