'Campus crimes to be dealt with stringently'

In view of students of different educational institutions indulging themselves in various crimes and antisocial activities, Director General of Police (DGP) Rajendra Prasad Sharma on Tuesday issued an advisory for the district Superintendents of Police, Twin City police DCPs, educational institutions and the parents to make the educational institution campuses crime-free.

The DGP instructed the SPs and DCPs to ensure that police carry out regular patrolling in and around the college campuses by deploying Police Control Room (PCR) vans to take action to stop sale of tobacco, drugs and other contraband products in shops near the educational institutions.

He urged police to take immediate steps against outsiders and ex-students as per law if they indulge in antisocial activities within the campuses, to deploy plainclothes personnel to detect outsiders committing antisocial activities and to conduct raids to detect antisocial elements, who pass lewd comments on girl students and also resort to eve teasing.

Dr Sharma also asked the police to remain in regular touch with the college authorities and students to carry out orientation programmes on crime-related issues.

“Develop intelligence inputs by regularly interacting with students to identify mischief mongers and to take action against them in consultation with the college authorities, sensitise the parents and students about misuse of smarphones,” directed the DGP.

The DGP further asked the educational institutions to take the police into trust and inform them in all matters relating to crimes and law and order and instal CCTVs to keep a watch on all the happenings in the campuses.

Sharma advised the parents to regularly visit their wards in the campuses to keep an eye on their activities and ensure their wellbeing.
