His temptation to talk to his sweetheart over phone sealed the fate of Satyam Sekhar Raul, who was arrested by the Crime Branch police on Wednesday.
The Crime Branch was on the hunt for Satyam, Sarathi Baba’s so-called son, who had gone underground on August 6, a day before the arrest of the Baba.
After leaving Odisha, Satyam was in constant touch with his girlfriend in Cuttack over his mobile phone. But as the 20-year-old youth later switched off his phone, it was difficult for the Crime Branch to trace his whereabouts.
However, the Crime Branch got the information on Satyam’s girlfriend and it did not take long for the agency to trace his whereabouts. While tracking her phone, the Crime Branch sleuths came to know that Satyam used to talk to her from a landline phone. But as he frequently changed his place of stay, there was a delay in nabbing him.
Things became easier after the Crime Branch seized his bank accounts and deactivated his ATM card. As a result, Satyam could not change his place and was finally caught.
The Crime Branch, however, is yet to reveal the identity of the girlfriend and her whereabouts in Cuttack.
