CAG report not always gospel's truth: Amat

Published on:

Already hounded by the Opposition Congress and BJP in and outside the State Assembly on various issues, the ruling BJD has yet again invited criticism from the Opposition over recent CAG reports. Talking to mediapersons on Sunday, Finance Minister Pradip Amat said, “CAG reports are not always Bedara gara (gospel’s truth). Our committee will examine them.” To balance his statement, he hastened, “We honour the reports, but at the same time we will examine it to find out whether there are any faults or not.”

Following the comment, the Opposition has trained its gun at the Government over Amat’s ‘serious’ comment on CAG reports. leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Narasingha Mishra alleged that the Government does not obey the Constitution, law of the land and judgment of the High Court and even ignore the lokpal directions. Now the Government is criticising a Constitutional post like the CAG, which is unfortunate, he added. BJP legislature Party leader Basanta Kumar Panda said the Finance Minister should respect the Constitutional body. “To escape from criticism and to subserve its interest, the ruling party is not even hesitating to criticise a Constitutional body,” he rued.
