CAA, NRC protested in twin cities

Conscious citizens, members of Left parties, democratic, socialist and human rights organisations and students  organised a rally in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

“The Citizenship Amendment Act is against the basic fabric of our Constitution.  Giving citizenship to refugees and excluding Muslims from it in the name of religion are violating the Constitution and secularism aspect of our country. The CAA will create hatred among religions and drive our society and country towards a division,” said the protestors.

In Cuttack, the Mahanagar Nagarika Mancha organised a meeting protesting police assault on students opposing implementation of the CAA and the NRC. Members belonging to various organisations participated in the meeting chaired by Sangrami Forum president Prashant Das. Members alleged that the Union Government has adopted the CAA in order to divert people’s attention against acute unemployment and price rise problems.

The members decided to hold a human chain from the Netaji Subhas Bose Setu to the Ravenshaw Collegiate School on December 27.

Mancha convenor Chittaranjan Mohanty, Sampurnakranti Abhiyan president Shishir Das, secretary Jugal Kishore Nayak, social worker Bishwabasu Das and others have requested people to join the human chain.
