Buxi statue in Parliament still undecided

Even as the 200th year of the Paika Revolt is being celebrated in big ways by both the Union and State Governments this year, a proposal for installation of a full-size horse-ride statue of Paika Bidroh hero Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar Mohapatra in the Parliament premises has remained undecided since 2004.

This was revealed from the information submitted by the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Minister Prafulla Samal in the State Assembly in response to a question of BJP MLA Dillip Ray on Friday.

The Minister informed that the State Government had first sent a proposal to the Parliament authorities in 2004 for installation of a horse-ride statue of Buxi Jagabanhu in Parliament premises. However, the Statue Installation Committee later made a proposal for installation of a 9-foot full-size of statue of Buxi Jagabandhu due to lack of space.

Later in 2008, the State Government again requested the Parliament authorities to reconsider its proposal of installation of full-size horse-ride statue of Buxi Jagabandhu. However, the Parliament authorities are yet to respond, said the Minister.
