A businessman of the city on Saturday sustained bullet injuries in his abdomen when a youth opened fire at him in the busy Pilgrim Road market near College Square under the Malgodown police station.
Arun Behera (35), who runs a shop in the market, is now undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College Hospital. The accused Satya Mohanty, who too sustained injuries in his neck during a scuffle with Behera, is also undergoing treatment in the same hospital under police custody.According to Cuttack DCP Sanjiv Arora, Behera and Mohanty had previous rivalries over a property dispute and they are litigants of a civil case pending disposal in court. A similar face-off had also taken place between the two in August 2013.
“Mohanty turned up at Behera’s shop in the morning with an acquaintance and picked up a quarrel which soon turned into a scuffle. Mohanty then pulled out his licensed weapon and fired at Behera injuring him in his abdomen,” said a police officer. The case has been registered in the incident.
