Tension prevailed near Barhampur village under the Patnagarh police limits in Balangir district on Wednesday as locals set a bus on fire after it hit a motorcycle leading to the death of a girl.
According to reports, one Balaram Sa of Salepali village under Patnagarh block was returning home along with his daughter Ananya by a motorcycle at around 10.30 am. In the meantime, a speeding bus dashed against the two-wheeler from rear injuring the two critically.
locals rescued the father-daughter duo and admitted them to the Balangir District Headquarters Hospital, where Ananya succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
The driver and the conductor of the bus fled the spot after the accident, following which irate locals overturned the vehicle and torched it.
On being informed, police reached the spot and initiated efforts to bring the situation under control.
