Bus owners-Govt meet today on fare hike

Published on:

With the State Government taking no effective step for its demand for bus fare hike, a delegation of the Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association (OPBOA) on Wednesday again called on Commerce and Transport Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi here and demanded a positive decision by Thursday, failing which the association would stop bus service from August 10.

Majhi informed mediapersons that a meeting between an OPBOA delegation and Government officials would be held on Thursday to discuss the association’s nine-point charter of demands.

The private bus owners have been demanding a hike in bus fare by seven paise per kilometer. Nearly 14,000 private buses would stay off the road if their demands go unheard.

OPBOA president Prakash Mishra said that though the Minister and officials have assured that they would look into the demand, but nothing tangible has happened as yet. “We hope the Government would take a positive step in this regard on Thursday,” he said.
