A number of burnt demonetised Rs500 and Rs1000 currency notes were seized from a person at Tanlapada in Sambalpur on Tuesday.
According to reports, the person had collected the notes from a drain near Mahanadi Balibandha Ghat here. On being informed, police reached at the person’s house and seized the notes from his possession.
It was suspected that someone had burnt and then thrown the notes into the drain, police said, adding that though it is difficult to count the mutilated notes, it was estimated that these are worth Rs30,000 to Rs35,000.
