: Again, a dispute over cremation of body of a man converted to Christianity in a Hindu cemetery arose in Siunaguda village under the Umarkote police station of Nabarangpur district.
As per information, one Damu Santa, a 68-year-old man who was suffering from paralysis, died at his residence in Siunaguda on Friday afternoon. Later, tension prevailed in the village over the burial of his body.
The dispute arose because the old man's family had converted to Christianity a few years ago; so, the villagers refused to let his body be buried in the village cemetery meant for the Hindus.
After lying in the house for hours, the old man's body was buried near Murtumba Street on Friday night with the help of the administration.
Hundreds of people from Murtumba village protested the cremation and blocked the Umarkote-Raighar road for a long time. Getting information, Nabarangpur ADM Bhaskar Raito rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators. In the afternoon the roadblock was cleared. Umarkote Tehsildar Tula Muduli, SDPO Suvendu Soboro and IIC in charge Lilima Panigrahi among others were present at the spot.
